McNutt's Island Lighthouse

Whether it's how quiet the place is, the wild sheep milling about, or the incredible view, there's something about this spot that just completely captures you the moment you arrive. Standing at the opening of the fence, taking in the entire view of this location, if you're like me, you instantly go shutter happy.

RCAF Beaverbank

Construction of this site was completed, and operations began in the fall of 1954. During its 10 years of operation, RCAF Station Beaverbank would feature such search radar as the CPS-6B, FPS-502, FPS-3, and FPS-508. Height radar would include the Bangor NORAD Sector with headquarters at Topsham Air Force Station in Brunswick, Maine.

St. John's Anglican Church

In 2001, this incredible, old church burned almost to the ground. The committee faced three choices. First, to place a monument on the location of the church and move on. Second, to build a new, more modern church. Third, and most expensively, to build the church as an exact replica of the original. Obviously from the pictures, they chose the third, and most difficult option.

Teleglobe Canada

Teleglobe traces its origins back to the formation of Canadian Overseas Telecommunications Corporation in 1950. COTC was a Crown Corporation operating as the exclusive provider of telecommunications services to and from Canada, first by VHF radio, later using newer technologies as they became available.

George's Island

Originally named Ile a la Raquette (Snowshoe Island), this island located in Halifax harbour was renamed George Island in 1749 after King George II. From the mid-18th century until after World War II, it played a part in the defense of Halifax.

Partridge Island

Partridge Island, located in St. John, NB, served two important roles in its history.

Textiles Belding Corticelli

Belding Smith and Company began business in 1876 and was incorporated in 1877. In 1883, this textile factory was first built, and expanded over the years. By 1920, the company was renamed Belding Corticelli Ltd.

Meech Lake Carbide Mill

Thomas Wilson (1860-1915) settled here in 1907 to study chemical fertilizers. The engineer, who had made a fortune with his discoveries and inventions in the field of electro-chemistry, considered this the ideal site for one of his most daring experiments.

Osseo House

I spotted this place while on my way to look for some mines. Looking around the outside, I realized quickly that this was a home that had children at some point. This would be further reinforced by the things I found inside.

Searchmont Station

This station was opened in 1903 as part of the Algoma Central Railway. Searchmont had become an important centre for timber and passenger business was growing until the Railway's changes in fares caused the volume of people departing from, or stopping at this station to drop off severely. By 2000, the station was closed, and the property is now for sale, but being managed in the interim by the Canadian National Railway.
